Dennis Ferrer @ Pacha NYC 6/28/13

6/28/13

Not just another Friday in the apple. This one had house music. Proper house music.

With thanks to our friends over at Biohazard promotions, In Bass We Trust hit Pacha NYC to see Denis Ferrer. Pacha NYC is in a league of it’s own. Nestled on the far west side of 46th in Hells Kitchen the lines out the door are often as long as the nights inside the iconic red cherry ornamented building.  As for Pacha's sound, the system is one of the best. It’s a fine tuned beast of an animal. About half a dozen Spanish dancers are on display at most times in the night and one is even dancing in a shower on the entry level. While the drinks are expensive, the bartenders serving them are actually fast and cherubic, something many nightclubs seem to pass over without a thought on.

The night built at a slow and pleasant pace as Nasser Baker spun a mix of techno, tech house and some deep house. Tracks played included: Enemy (&Me & Rampa), Empire State (&Me), Palm Leaves (Gerd-Deetron Mix), Older House (Sidney Charles). Dennis dropped Nasser’s massive track ‘Tricks’ late in the night and it went off hardcore.

Dennis had been grooving in the booth for a little while checking the vibe and at 1:30, he dropped the needle on a Deetron mix of his own and the building slamed the pedal down and stayed in overdrive the rest of the evening. The fabulous producer and dj in his own right known as ‘Mr. V’ would occasionally get on the mic to hype the crowd with soulful words of wisdom ("if they tell you it's easy, they are lying.") on stage left as Nasser stayed at  stage right all nightlong dancing and clearly loving his night until he would eventually go back onto play a closing set to the a crowd literally drenched in sweat for many hours at 5a.m. As for Dennis’s set, like those we’ve seen prior in Miami, it was flawless and amazing. Almost 4 hours of awesome. The set climaxed with Dennis’s upcoming Defected Records release ‘Mind UR Step’, for which he teamed up with Chicago chartreuse Janelle Kroll. This one is going to be huge. Other set highlights included Reverse Skydiving and Tricks (Nasser Baker)

Our only gripe we have as the golden sun begins to rise is the same gripe we have after seeing any good long and proper house music set…..why can’t the rest of the world’s token DJ’s quit playing such crap? Clearly there is some great music out there. At least in NYC the people are ready to dance to it when it is served to them. And that is definitely what was on the menu at Pacha last night. Huge servings of proper house music. Soul lifting house music. Body moving house music. Booty shaking house music. The kind of house music that makes you want to go home to bed at 4 a.m. but stay way past the dawn kind of house music. House music that leaves your legs tired and clothes soaked in sweat house music. The kind of house music that is now because it always was. Real house music. Denis Ferrer kind of house music.

Lavo Nightclub NYC (6/21/13)

In Bass We Trust NYC is now in effect. We recently made our first venture out into the big city and of all the places to venture out, there was one we needed to get to first. We met some of the great folks from Lavo at WMC in Miami, including the discriminating door keeper, Richard Wheeler and have been trying to make a stop for about 75 weeks since. It was worth the wait, just wish it had not taken so long, and it won’t be next time.

As a side note, Richard runs the amazing clothing line HOUS. The designer brand has been featured around the globe, recently launched in Copenhagen among other places around the globe.  We've seen the musically inspired designer garbs on sale on South Beach, but you can score them online now.  The fashions have been worn by many a huge star DJ and celebrity. 'IBWT' are huge fans of the HOUS label, so should you be.

As for Lavo, expect to buy a table, know someone or have lots of money to get in the exclusive venue.  Don't come dressed in jeans and an Ed Hardy thinking you are getting in. The prime midtown location is at 58thStreet, so a sunrise stroll in Central Park is an easy option. The décor and lighting are top notch as is the sound system. The people are beautiful and the drinks are expensive. Everything you want in an A-list NYC nightclub.

As a constant stream of v.i.p. waitresses carried sparklerlit bottles of champagne and vodka, resident DJ Jeffrey Tonnenson was on thedecks throughout and played an upbeat proper set of current and cutting edge electro andtop 40 with a random sprinkling of trap tossed in for the revelers.

Can’t wait to get back, promise it won’t take us 75 weeks.

Eric Prydz @ Label &..... NC BBQ

Sorry for the slow updates, we’ve been BUSY!!!!!  So let’s start with the big news, In Bass We Trust moved its home base from Charlotte, NC to New York City to be in the center point of the action in the Milky Way Galaxy. Stay tuned for future IBWT events in NYC and surrounding areas later in summer.  This is the last post from Charlotte, NC so to start off, thanks Charlotte!!!!  We’ve had a blast and look forward to visiting soon.

As homage to the great state of NC….and for anyone ever visiting, here’s a list the top BBQ places we liked to chow down at in the Charlotte area and some bonus places around the state:

Old Hickory House
Fort Mill BBQ
BBQ Pitt (Lake Wylie)
Sauceman’s
McCoy’s
Sonny’s
Farmer’s
Jim & Nicks
Lancaster’s (The BBQ is ok, but they get in for having cool NASCAR décor floor to ceiling)

Honorable mention: Midwood Smokehouse & City Smoke
Worst by far: Mac’s Speedshop (Compared to the rest, awful)

Lexington area:
Lexington BBQ, Smiley’s, Jimmy’s, Speedy’s

Triangle Area:
Smithfield’s Chicken BBQ, Bullock’s

We’ve tried many many many many more, but those are the best we found.

On to some dance talk….

Our last night out in Charlotte, there was only one place to stop….the first EVER southeastern appearance by Eric Prydz.  After a stellar warm up set in the main room by local house music Don of the Charlotte house music scene, Kevin Focus, Prydz came on and thrilled the near capacity crowd.  Label clearly had restocked their confetti cannons for the special occasion.  Prydz played a few of his Pryda tracks in his set and pushed at least three killer tracks by Cirez D.  After the show, Eric was nice enough to stop and chat and we let him know how heavy we’ve been pushing his remix of A Bit Patchy on dancefloors the past few years, truly a bomb of a secret weapon that’s not very secret anymore.

Next stop, New York City.

Close Enough – Javi Mula Feat Carol Lee
