Support on the night was from Miss Jennifer. Jennifer plays constantly around the NYC area and we recently saw her with Robbie Pope in Miami for WMC. After a full day and night of driving back to NYC from gigs in Charlotte, NC, we made it to the venue just in time to catch Chus and Caballos coming on. Not at all in time to avoid a big cover….. but Chus & Caballos house music is worth it. The duo rocked the dark Brooklyn venue long into the early morning playing lots of Ibercan grooves and plenty of NYC classics. 5/23 - Pow Wow, Chop Shop, Charlotte, NC

SPENT Promotions, run by promoter Mikie Tookie, put on the biggest Native-American themed rave on the east coast over Memorial Day Weekend at the Chop Shop in Charlotte, NC. After a successful first Pow Wow in 2013, the event returned. After a long work week in NYC, we rushed down the east coast to make it to the Friday night spiritual gathering or artists, performers. People were spinning glowsticks and fire rings as random folks dressed as bananas, gorillas and the lovely Chaotic Cupcake dancers graced the two stages.

Like the Washington Redskin namesake, the ‘Pow Wow’ event was surrounded by scores of press over the moniker usage. First local press in Creative Loafing, then national, then international coverage when DJ Mag picked up the story. A small group of local protestors were upset with the rave for using classic Native American imagery in their event title and for people dressing in Indian garb.

While the press coverage was enormous, the actual protest consisted of less than a half dozen people standing in front of the venue holding badly written signs that most homeless people would have been embarrassed to display. Clearly they didn't plan their protest well and as hundreds of people filed in they were apparently upset fort being ignored, as one went inside and pulled a fire alarm in a desperate hail Mary attempt to end the event. The effect was the opposite as all the punters gathered together at the outdoor stage which continued to rage uninterrupted; But now with the bonus of flashing red lights to go with the music. Eventually the firefighters left, and the protestors disappeared and the main room reopened.

The music on the night was killer and the crowd was decked out in bright colors and glow stick paraphernalia. The local troop of sexy dancers, the Chaotic Cupcakes were on hand. Burnt Canvas created live art on the side of the main stage. Burn Gang was on hand for fire spinning. Live drummers graced the stage on several occasions. The DJ’s on the lineup were from around the NC area, some in from as far as Fayetteville. ‘Team No Sleep’ raged the outdoor stage. The number of DJ’s on the lineup was massive and included KIiNG Boo, Sean T, Moodswing, Ampacity, Low End Co, Osirus, Vexation, Thrillian, Killtrak, Freaky, Daniels Jack, Danny B & headliners Shouse and DJ Dirty.

5/19 Webutante Ball, Marquee, NYC

Internet week hit NYC once again in April and with more and more tech companies flocking to NYC, the event grows larger each year. The main event in the evening hours is the annual 'Webutante Ball' at Marquee night club. The event was sponsored by Telium, a leader in digital tag management, this year and featured DJ's, a photo 'light-booth' by 'Light Bomber' and an entire night of open bar. The three bars all were featuring various delicious premium vodka concoctions from Stoli Vodaka. 'Webutante' Ball, which sells out every year, is a gathering of the nations best and brightest in the technology field. The crowd was full of tech start up owners, media moguls and web designers. Attendees at the event in recent years included top individuals from Faceboom, Tumblr, Spotify, Gawker Media and MTV just to name a few.

In Bass We Trust stopped by Cielo for another stellar presentation by S.O.U.P Promotions. This time the party featured San Fran producer and Mushroom Jazz pioneer, Mark Farina. Support on the night included Jenai Le, the young man known simply as ‘Wig’, once again breaking out a live sax player mid set and always the dynamic duo of Love & Logic killed it. Mark Farina was making his S.O.U.P. debut and he played a killer night of tunes, all on vinyl! =)

Easter! Canada! White Party! Spring is here!!!!

In Bass We Trust went international for the first of several trips abroad in 2014 over Easter Weekend. The city of Montreal was simply amazing and we are planning to throw a party there in the near future. We arrived a few days early to check out the city, meet some local club owners and chat with a few notable local house DJ’s, like the amazing Ohm Hourani who originally hails from Jordan. Check him out.

The venue, the Palais De Congress was gargantuan, featuring three arena sized rooms, each on it’s own bigger than most event spaces. It just so happened we made it for the twentieth anivarsary of the event. It’s been going on a long time! The theme for this years festival, held yearly on Easter Sunday was ‘Palace of Wonders’ and Alice in Wonderland the inspiration. The building was decked out with Cheshire Cats, white rabbits, Mad Hatters, giant smoking caterpillars, life sized playing cards and scantily clad dancing Alice’s, Queen of Hearts. By the time we made it through the VIP lines and the Fulsom Prison-esque security screens, the place was already starting to fill up and the opening acts were warmiong it up. Before the night was over, more than 15,000 people dressed, all in white, many in creative costumes, would be passing through the doors.

The crowd was as massive as the building and by midnight nearly all three arenas were packed to capacity. Luckily we had V.I.P. passes and were able to walk freely to the fronts of all the stages as fast as we could walk, because it would have been quite difficult to get anywhere close to several of the acts otherwise. While we spent most of our time glued to the Carl Cox stage, but we ventured in all three arenas to catch a little of all the acts.

One arena featured mostly trance music. Headliners on the night were Adrew Rayel and New World Punx (Marcus Shulz & Ferry Corrsten). Of the great acts in support was notably Giuseppe Ottovani who had a great set.

The arena we spent most of our time listening to amazing house music was the Carl Cox and friends arena. The room opened with Monitor, an amazing duo of underground minimal house producers who are from Montreal and regularly headline at Stereo. Monitor was followed by Paskal Daze who was equally impressive. Real house music in this arena; and Nic Fanciuli delivered plenty of it. Carl came on to headline for several hours and the room closed with the techno queen, Nicole Moudaber.

The main arena opened with Domeno followed by Paris & Simo. As the crowd built, Dyro then Dannic got this up to a bouncing fever pitch. We were happy to see so many of these acts for the first time, including the next act Carnage. This man destroys. Decimates. Amazing. With the crowd bouncing, the next act came on. The feature act for the show no doubt, Hardwell. This youngster had the energy and charisma on display that garnered him the spot as the #1 DJ in the world on display his entire set. Deep Dish closed out the night and finished off any linger of hope to make it home to New York without a long nap.
