Roseland Ballroom:

Financed by the Yeungling Family (Beer!)

Founded 1917 in Philadelphia, PA.

1919, relocated to 2^nd story of 51^st & Broadway to escape blue laws.

Fletcher Henderson; Louie Armstrong; Harry James; Count Bassie, Chick Webb; Tommy Dorsey, Glen Miller, Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman.

Marathon dancing.

Female prizefights.

Yo-Yo contests.

1956, relocated to 52^nd St, NYC.

Iconic building built in 1922.

Former ice skating rink, then converted to roller skating rink.

3,500 capacity.

97 years later for Roseland and 92 for the building.

Closed for business.

Long gone are the swinging big bands and ballroom dances that made venues like the Roseland, The Savoy, Starlight and The Hammerstein Ballroom famous, and like most all of the venues from that era, another one bites the dust. It happens. Owner sees more money in redeveloping the property with a high-rise multi-use building. Hopefully like a Phoenix it will rise from the ashes in a new location at some point in the future, but this is the end for now.

In Bass We Trust stopped out one last time to say goodbye to the landmark building and enjoy a quick Lady Gaga concert erstwhile. Gaga had played the venue regularly and closed out the ten decade long party with an extended 10 night stand musical funeral for the building. When we walked in, they were handing out commemorative hologram concert stubs with Gaga on the front with a pre-fame photo proclaiming in 2008: “I am Lady Gaga, a singer/songwriter. You’re going to know me one day.” Her last 6 years have been meteoric.....and we all know her name.

The show was the introduction for her worldwide Artpop Tour; which fans can hit around the country and throughout the globe at much more affordable ticket prices during the summer months.

The show opened on a rose adorned stage with Gaga solo on the piano playing a fabulous version of ‘Born This Way’, reminding us that it was her 28^th Birthday and glad we were all there to celebrate with her. A few songs later she climbed a ladder and high above the crowd sang ‘Bad Romance’. At one point she was singing from a replica subway car. At another she was playing a key-tar decked in red roses. There was an inordinate amount of female crotch grabbing, but that is expected from Lady 'F*n Gaga. A stunning amount of wardrobe changes occurred and there was a host of amazing male back-up dancers.

Although barely and hour long, the energy was so high and the action focused it resulted in a performance that seemed at least twice as long.

4/11 Industry Standard @ Kolo Club, Hoboken, NJ

The regular house music party that keeps the dance music scene thriving in Hoboken, NJ, known as 'Industry Standard', was at it again in April, this time with guest DJ’s Dante DiMedici and Rick Mianuelli each spinning for an hour. The club, located in the 2^nd floor of the Pilsner Haus Beer Garden, was packed to capacity throughout the night as was the dancefloor. Resident DJ’s Dan Rozum, Marcus Robson and Christopher Terrusa took turns spinning the rest of the long night of bumping bass and throbbing techno beats.

3/30 WMC ’14 – In Bass We Trust Closing Pool Party | Miami, FL

In Bass We Trust headed south for the 2nd Annual In Bass We Trust Closing WMC Pool Party at the beautiful Catalina Beach Club, 1756 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL on March 30^th. The annual marathon party started at 12 pm and raged straight on through the day, the evening and well into the warm weather night.

The lineup on the event was huge, with DJ's from all around the globe. Although several countries were represented, this year was the ‘Italian Invasion’ on In Bass We Trust WMC, as six different DJ’s from all over Italy were on hand! Miky J, Gabriele Cutrano and Leo Lippolis were all in from Siccily, Gary Caos hailing from Bologna and the duo of Pelussje from Milan. London was well represented as well with DJ Triphina and vocalist Victoria Aitken. The rest of the line up was filled with star DJ’s and singers from all over the Eastern Seaboard including: Wiggz N Wonz (Charlotte, NC), Skylo (Miami), Defekt (Charleston, SC), Robbie Pope (NYC), DJ Chris Halo (Miami), TEGI (Miami), Kids on Mars (Miami), Rob Allen (Fort Lauderdale) and of course, the event founder Dante DiMedici (NYC). There was a singer showcase, featuring Vitoria Aitken (London), Rob Allen (Ft. Lauderdale) and Sklo (Miami).

Miky J, who by day runs the label SNATCH!, laid down a killer set of tech house, spinning back to back with his pal Gabrielle Cutrano (Mind Ability Records / Go Deeva Records). Amazing music through the set, which included a hot remix of the new Riva Starr & Green Velvet track ‘Robots’. Riva even stopped in the party for a little while =).

Gary Caos, with hits such as Soul Power ’74, laid down a great set of house music to a jubilant crowd that went off when he dropped his new track with Alaia & Gallo ‘Been a Long Time’ (featuring Grace Ashaye).

The day built methodically for twelve hours from house and tech house into a more electofied rager with a packed room for local act Kids on Mars, and the insane party trap music of NC natives Wiggz N Wonz. Finally Pelussje, who were heading to L.A. the following day to start a national tour, came on the decks and totally destroyed the place.

The party’s just keep getting bigger and next year promises to be following that trend! WMC ’15, full speed ahead.

1/17 - Luciano @ Marquee, NYC

In Bass We trust swung through the Meat Packing district once again to Marquee nightclub to dance the night away to the Swiss-Chilean house maestro and Cadenza Records boss Luciano. Sleepy and Boo opened the night right. The club was packed with champagne drinking voracious dancers early and Luciano kept them all dancing long into the night and right up to the 5 am curfew.
